Happy May everyone! It looks like Spring if finally here, thank goodness! Can you say a tall cold beer on the patio, green smoothies in the sunshine, and fresh and local fruits all day long?! I know I’m excited! We have had a busy couple of weeks, with more craziness to come! Packing up our entire apartment, travelling to Spain for a week (woohoo!), and then coming back to a whole new apartment! Exciting things are happening!
During April, I had the chance to collab with two great companies and try some amazing, new-to-me products. One is a local Belgian Kombucha company, BeKombucha, and the other is an incredible monthly delivery service of vegan snacks from Vegan Tuck Box! I’m so grateful that I get to interact with like-minded people and companies through this amazing outlet, and I can’t wait to share my thoughts with you!
I was so excited to meet up with Stéphane from BeKombucha. We had found each other through instagram, and being a long time kombucha drinker, I just couldn’t say no! I met up with him, and we did a tasting of all the flavours BeKombucha had to offer!
Let’s start with a short background on kombucha for those who have never tried it. Kombucha is a fermented tea drink that is full of probiotics, vitamins, enzymes, and other disease fighting goodies. Recently, kombucha and other fermented foods have become ‘all the rage’ for promoting a healthy gut and improving digestion. I have also loved reading up on the benefits drinking kombucha has on healthy skin! They say you glow from the inside out, right? Well, if your gut is glowing, then so will you!
I absolutely loved the kombucha from BeKombucha. First of all, only organic ingredients are used while making all of the brews! The flavours were also delicious. The ginger-lemon was my favourite, the perfect spiciness! Stéphane uses pure, fresh pressed ginger to flavour this one, and you can really taste the difference! I loved it! The third thing I love about this company is their commitment to decreasing their ecological footprint. One of the ways they sell their kombucha is in zero-waste glass jars that you can go and refill at a local zero waste grocery store called Grasphopper! Not to mention, I love the packaging and design of this company, and supporting local always makes me happy!
Something else super exciting came out of this meeting! In about a month, I will be running the Brussels 20km race representing BeKombucha! I’ll be racing with my very own BeKombucha shirt, to let everyone know just how much I love it. Thanks Stéphane and BeKombucha, I love your product and am so grateful to have met you!
I was also so excited to have received the April Ultimate Vegan Tuck Box in the mail this past month! I love trying out new and amazing vegan snacks…I mean, who doesn’t? This box was packed with 11 amazing snacking products, all vegan, and all delicious. I opened the box and was immediately so excited. The packaging and the way everything was presented was just amazing! I wanted to share some of my favourites from the box with you, so here we go!
The first thing I dove into was The Great Stuff Chives and Onion Popcorn. We have been on a real popcorn kick lately (homemade cooked in coconut oil, sprinkled with nutritional yeast and salt…try it, trust me!), so this popcorn was calling my name. It was amazing. The flavour was so good (anything with chives just speaks to me hehe), and it was so fresh. Only complaint is that it wasn’t a bottomless bag!
Being the April box, this one had a bit of am Easter theme to it, and that means…chocolate! Two of my favourites were obviously in keeping with this theme. I think my overall favourite from the box was the Doisy and Dam Chocolate Snaps. These were a maple, salt and toasted rice flavour, which is probably why I loved them so much. The maple brought me back home to Canada every time I took a bite!
Secondly, the Liberty Loves Raw Millionaires Chocolate Tart. This tart was absolutely brilliant. It was so rich and chocolatey, we ate it pretty darn quick (too quick to even take a photo of it…oops).
For the fourth favourite product, my boyfriend Rob is here to give you his review, because he snatched it up before I could even try it…classic…the Mr. Yeti Lemon and Fig Bar! So Rob, what did you think? “I loved the ingredient list and how it said exactly what was in it, and it was an amazing snack to have during practice. I love having dates and other dried fruits during training or games, so this bar really appealed to me, which is why I grabbed it before Lauren could…my bad. The taste was also amazing, the texture was great, and it was super easy to eat during water breaks. Would 10/10 eat many more of those.” (Side note, he now describes foods based on textures…we have been watching a lot of cooking shows lately and he’s really expanding his food tasting vocabulary).
Something else that is really amazing about Vegan Tuck Box is that they donate a portion of each box to a different charity each month! This month’s charity was HeartCure’s vegan social centre project. This vegan centre will be a space for events, workshops and meetings. The centre will also house the area’s first zero waste shop, which is something we should all get behind! You can read more about the project here!
Other delicious snacks in the box included: Melting Pot Handmade Vanilla Fudge, The Nut Shack Piri Piri Peanuts, Loroma Foods Cocoa Flapjack, Life Loving Foods Vegan Panna Cotta Mix, Neat’s Wasabi Rice Snacks, iChoc Choco Cookie Bar, and a sample of Miracle Matcha White Tea!
Thanks again to BeKombucha and Vegan Tuck Box for making my April a little bit brighter with all of your great products!
